Back to School Dance!!!

Well... for all you mommies out there with the little baby girls.... HOLD ON TO THEM... TIGHT... because you will close your eyes and wake up and all of a sudden they are almost 12, starting middle school and going to their first dance.

So, Abby came home from her first day of school asking if she could go to the "back to school" dance. Well, my first reaction was "NO" but then mom reminded me that I went to all of that stuff, and I was just being too over protective.. and as always she was right. And of course Abby was going. So I picked her up from her dads on Friday (where she goes after school) and took her to moms house to get ready. She looked BEAUTIFUL.

I'm not that mom that lets her 11 year old daughter wear make-up yet. Lots of parents do at this age, but I don't. At least not on a daily basis. But I will let her wear it for "special occasions". And I felt like the dance feel under that. Mom snapped a few pics of me putting some make up on her. These are priceless to me.

So, here is the funny part for all of you with the little ones.... This is what you have to look forward to. I am glad that I am going through this first so that I can warn you all of what is to come in your future. ..... LOL...

So after getting her all "dolled up" we head to the school. And we all remember the Hunter dances.. they haven't changed much... At least thats what I think at this point....I told Abby that I was going to walk her inside.. but she threw such a fit that I just couldn't do it... I knew that I wasn't going to walk her in, I just wanted her to have a freak out moment. So anyway... I pull up to drop her off, about 15 mins after it started... and I swear these boys that were walking into this school were 6 foot tall with facial hair... SERIOUSLY... I don't remember boys having facial hair in middle school. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN? But I did what a good, NON EMBARRASSING MOM would do and just dropped her off.

She called me to come pick her up, and I had to actually go in to the school and pick her up. Well, I wasn't ready for that either... Ok lets flash back to dances from our era. We would all stand and hug the wall... NO ONE WOULD ACTUALLY DANCE.. RIGHT?? Every once and a while.. maybe. But I walk in and there are kids, dropping it like its hot on the dance floor. I felt like I was in a club. The only thing I can say was there was plenty of supervision, no smoke, and no alcohol. :) And no bar to dance on!

All and all it was actually an ok experience, and Abby had a great time. First thing that she said when she saw me was "mom, there was so many cute boys in there". I said "oh great, here we go".

Enjoy the pics.

That is halarious Jennifer! I laughed through this whole blog. I could not imagine doing what you're doing right now. Isabella is so doomed when she gets that age. I'm going to be the embarrassing mom! You handled it so well.

Just wait until she goes to prom. As a high school teacher, I got the honor of being at my first prom in 12 years this past May. I am also the Yearbook sponsor, so I had the school camera there to take pictures...lets just say there weren't too many "action" pictures of the dancing that can actually go in the yearbook...I agree Jen, they aren't like we were!!! Even though we thought we "dirty danced", we obviously didn't know what we were doing back then!!!LOL

I'm glad you let Abby go to the dance and that you took pictures. I still love looking back at mine and I know she will too...BTW, she looked so much like you in those pictures :)

I remember those dances like it was yesterday! I cannot even begin to think of Tessa at one of those. It sounds like you handled it much better than I would have! Those pictures are priceless!
